About

Hi, I’m Steve – a data scientist, educator, and coach currently living in Worcester, MA and working as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Quinsigamond Community College.  I’ve spent the past seven years teaching mathematics, but after recently completing a master’s degree in Data Science, I’m looking to transition to a position where I can apply these new skills and knowledge.

While I enjoy teaching, the return to the classroom after the Covid-19 pandemic provided me with a fresh perspective and allowed me to realize I was seeking something more from my professional endeavors.  So, in Spring 2022, I began my pursuit of another master’s degree in Data Science.  I’ve always enjoyed computer science as well, and had some programming experience in Python and Java, so it was a good fit.  Now, 18 months later, I’ve finished my degree, shifted my focus and interest to machine learning, predictive analytics, and data visualization, developed proficiency in R, and am open to new opportunities in the field of data science.

In addition to data and teaching, I’m also big into the sport of swimming.  I began swimming at the age of seven and have been coaching age group swimming for more than a decade.  I am beginning my seventh year with Crimson Aquatics (the best club in New England!)

I often like to combine my love of swimming with math/data by writing nerdy articles on SwimSwam.com.  Though it’s rare I hop in the water myself these days, I do still train 5-6 days per week with a mix of cycling and lifting and am really passionate about staying active and healthy.

I also have a cat named Izzy.  She’s the cutest (and the real brains behind the operation here, let’s be honest).  She is definitely my coding partner though, frequently hopping up next to me or on my lap while I code to offer valuable feedback and debugging suggestions.
